I use a long auto generated password for GitHub that is stored in the macOS keychain and I do not have it memorized. Now GitHub is removing the possibility to use password to authenticate git operations (eg via a terminal or an app). In the instructions it suggests removing the current credentials from the keychain and instead adding the token.
